Description
During the 2024-2025 school year to date, Rochester Public Schools has identified 387 students experiencing homelessness. Learn how Olmsted County, Rochester Public Schools and others are addressing youth and family homelessness in RPS and across Olmsted County by aligning goals, leveraging resources and expertise to respond to this complex community challenge.
OUR PRESENTERS
Lida Casper
Coordinator of Community Partnerships, Rochester Public Schools
As the product of a “village” herself, Lida knows firsthand that it takes a network of people and systems working together to build a healthy and vibrant community where all kids can thrive. Lida has spent nearly 20 years as an educator, teaching and learning across the country from New York City to rural Alaska, and finally, landing in Rochester, Minnesota. In 2010 she was awarded district Teacher of the Year in the Southwest Region School District. In 2019 she completed her administrative license at the University of Minnesota.
Passionate about ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed, Lida works with key community partners to remove barriers, align school and community resources and build meaningful networks of support to empower students today and into the future.
Mary O’Neil
Associate Director, Olmsted County Housing Department
Mary has 25 years of experience as a social worker in the behavioral health field and transitioned to the Housing Department in 2020. With a background in social work and her LICSW, Mary formed and led the Housing Stability Team, a team of social workers addressing homelessness. This team has grown from 4 to 10 members that includes three social workers embedded with Rochester Public Schools to address family homelessness.

About the Equity Alliance Equity Series
The Equity Alliance Equity Series is a monthly seminar sponsored by Destination Medical Center and the City of Rochester. The purpose is to introduce diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices, build sustainable DEI community strategies, and build advocacy and allyship within the Rochester community. The series is held virtually on the second Wednesday of every month at noon.
